The concentration of apparent endogenous ethanol.

چکیده
HE CONCENTRATIONS of endogenous ethanol reported in various tissues were the subject of recent review (1). It was concluded that the available evidence points to a normal level of ethyl alcohol in humans of between 20 and 30 mg. per liter of blood or serum. Such concentrations require the formation of ethanol in amounts equivalent to between 14 and 20 per cent of the basal metabolic rate. Because of their pe rtinence to a `x theory of the etiology of alcoholism, apart even from its intrinsic interest as a possibly important intermediary pathway, experiments have been performed in the manner suggested in the review in an attempt to clarify the issues. It has not been possible to confirm the concentrations reported. The present paper describes the techniques used and the results obtained.

Evaluation of Ethanol and N-propanol in Victims
Background: Blood alcohol concentration is a major factor in forensic analysis in criminal and civil litigation. Along with ethanol, other volatile compounds such as n-propanol are produced as products of putrefaction. The aim of this study is the evaluation of ethanol and n-propanol in postmortem blood. Methods: A case-control study was done on 300 blood samples obtained from cadavers that...
متن کاملEffect of Methyl Jasmonate and Sucrose on Endogenous Non-structural Carbohydrates in Petals and Leaves of Cut ‘First Red’ Roses (Rosa hybrida L.)
Effects of exogenously applied methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and sucrose on vase life and non-structural carbohydrate concentration in petals and leaves of cut ‘First Red’ roses were investigated. Roses were placed in sealed plastic containers and received MeJA vapour treatment (0.1 μL MeJA L-1) for 24 h at 20°C. Flowers were then placed in individual bottles containing 0 or 2% (v/v) sucrose solution...
متن کاملSeparation Performance of Improved PERVAPTM Membrane and Its Dependence on Operating Conditions
By using binary ethanol/water mixtures, the separation performance of two improved commercial pervaporation embranes (PERVAPTM) are presented. Separation performance data are analyzed and compared as a function of operating conditions. The effect of initial feed concentration on the separation performance and the effect of feed concentration on apparent activation energy are presented. For memb...
متن کاملEthanol Concentration and Its Correlation with CNS Suppressor Drugs in Postmortem Subjects
Background: Many studies have been done in order to interpret correctly the results of ethanol analysis and its related problems. Unfortunately, it was not easy to determine BAC rate, due to postmortem different conditions or personal and clinical differences in metabolism and excretion of ethanol. The time between death and autopsy, the environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) are i...
متن کاملModification of Nifedipine Inhibitory Effect on Calcium Spike and L-Type Calcium Current by Ethanol in F1 Neuron of Helix aspersa
There is strong evidence demonstrating that nifedipine dissolved in ethanol selectively inhibits only L-type Ca2+ current. In addition, acute ethanol exposure reduces voltage-dependent calcium currents. In the present study, we investigated the antagonistic effect of fixed concentration of nifedipine dissolved in different concentration of ethanol on L-type Ca2+ current. In a Na+-K+ free soluti...
